comparing AWS to Mosaic is an insult. Mosaic helped tie open technologies together, what is it about AWS that does the same?

If anything is an indicator here is that success in this arena will be best determined by a vendor that promotes usage of standards, avoids lock-ins, and reliability. All 3 attributes allow clients to use the "cloud" in any manner they choose and will flock to whoever can provide these regardless of cost.

TrevorO

Great post.
It is possible.
What we don't know will often bite us.
Take nothing for granted.
Please kick this around some more.

way to early to tell, but I've seen many developers and deployers over rotate onto AWS only to pull back, or out completely after a few months. Most commonly cited reasons:
* too expensive for my workload
* runaway costs
* reliability is insufficient for my service level standard
* fear of lock-in
* lacking RESTful API's

Amazon is working on all of these, except the lock-in bit. I wouldn't bet against them being able to solve these though. But these and other challenges that will be hard to solve when you're burdened with all the legacy that they bear as the Mosaic of cloud.
