Easter Island

Easter Island Moai
When I first joined the Soren Larsen back in November, I signed on for 4 months as an extra crew member to help with the New Zealand season, as well as a refit period. Recently, the skipper invited me to stay on for the Easter Island leg of her pacific ocean journey. The trip would take the ship from New Zealand to Easter Island, along the southern ocean for what is sure to be a vomit-inducing 49 day odyssey.
Will I go?
I want to do it, but I’m scared. I get terrible anxiety when it comes to the unknown.
Always hoping for the best, but constantly fearing the worst.
And while it’s hard to remember, a way to get over that fear is to admit and realize that the worst will probably come to pass, but it will never be as bad as you thought it would.

There was a post today on spirit-blog containing the following quote:
‘Do what you fear the most, and the death of fear is certain.’

If you’ve ever ran from something you’re scared of, you probably know the feeling you get afterwards – A little bit of shame mixed with a little bit of regret.
And while being scared of certain things is totally acceptable (I’d never voluntarily drive into the eye of a tornado) sometimes you’ve just got to face your fears.

Decisions, decisions…

You got my email…if I’m considering jumping out of a plane, you can go on this boat ride. You KNOW how much I hate heights. SCAET S420? yeah remember that fucking building and I refused to use those fucking stairs where you could see through them? Now that’s easy shit compared to going up to 3000′ and leaving a perfectly fine and sturdy plane of your own accord.

Do it I say, you’re already on a journey and to turn back now…you’d never forgive yourself later.

Do you want to go?…or do you want the satisfaction of saying you stayed on for 3 more months unlike many before you. You already know that this cakewalk to other decisions you’ve made. The question is do you want to do it for 49 days straight on a boat with little port time? What about after that? Sailor for life?

Your wisdom comes in knowing when to take the difficult path and when to respect its boundary.

The pics are definitely awesome though.

P.S. Canada is safe now you can come home if you want.

Lemon…you’re all talk! Where’s my chicken fingers?

Hey Trevor.Take ths ride till it runs out. A lot can happen between now and Tahiti. And if I had to be let off ship, I think Tahiti would be a good place to rest and lick my wounds!
Did you read my last email I sent?
All is well in Port Elgin. Just be cautious, Canada has a new dictator,,, I mean Prime Minister. Consevative, Steven Harper.
Russ and Bob send their regards.
